Football Information
A partnership with Watchung Hills Regional High School Football helping to build a successful High School football program for the future.

The Watchung Hills Junior Warrior Football Association is proud to introduce the Watchung Hills Football and Cheerleading League. After a successful inaugural year with the middle school travel teams the association saw a need to expand the league to include all boys and girls in grades K-8 , who reside in Watchung Borough, Green Brook, Long Hill and Warren Townships.
The Association’s goal is to provide a positive youth football and cheer experience to as many children as possible while preparing them for a successful high school career. The concept of the league was developed to cultivate a fun and enjoyable environment to help young athletes improve their skills and to perform those skills to the best of their abilities.
With this philosophy in mind, the league will consist of flag football and cheer for 5, 6, and 7 year olds and tackle football and cheer levels for grades 3rd through 8th. In addition, the association will maintain the two middle school travel teams from last year, who will now be competing in the newly formed Junior Skyland Football Conference.
Each of the flag and tackle football teams will have a maximum of 16 players. This will allow for maximum playing time for all. If a child does not start on offense then he MUST start on defense. This will guarantee every child a starting position, and a minimum of at least half of the plays in every game.
Co-founders, Keith Vanderbeek and Ed Sofo explain “Separating the players into small rosters is essential for kids to learn and enjoy the game of football. In our experience with coaching football over the years, kids want to play and have fun, not just practice.”
There will be no weight restrictions at any level with the exception of positional weight requirements at every tackle level. Players over a certain weight at these levels will not carry the ball and will be required to play the line.
The WHFL and WH Junior Warriors will begin practice on August 15th and play all games on Saturdays.
